Volunteer Visitor - New England Regional NSW - # 208007

Seniors & Aged Care Regular - more than 6 months Taminda NSW

About this opportunity

Please note: the volunteer position is based in your town/city either in the home of the care-recipient or in an aged care facility

The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) is a government funded program to combat social isolation and help develop social connections in older persons.

Maintaining social connections is more important than ever for our older persons and can be essential in relieving depression and anxiety. Many of our older community members long for a friendly face to share their time with and spending just 1 hour a day chatting can make a positive change in both your life and the lives of others.

We are searching for friendly, engaging volunteers that are 18 years of age or older. This position requires patience, compassion, and reliability. Visits can be one on one or small groups, so bring a friend! Families with children are welcome to volunteer as well. We are looking for volunteers in the New England region of NSW.

We offer induction training as well as ongoing support and check-ins. Volunteers will have the flexibility to visit on days and times that suit them. All volunteers must be willing to undergo a National Police Check (paid for by us).

Volunteers will be expected to spend at least one hour per fortnight on an ongoing basis with their matched care recipient, doing an activity that they both enjoy. This is decided based on interests and mobility level. Activities can include having a cuppa, painting, reading, taking a walk, and more. You will be truly amazed at how eager our care recipients are to get back into all the activities they used to enjoy! Volunteers can choose to visit a recipient in the recipient's home or in an aged care facility. Volunteers in Tamworth, Kootingal, and Moonbi will be able to use Oxley Community Transport free of charge to accompany their new friend to outings around town.

Training Volunteers will receive basic training and ongoing support. Orientation of aged care facilities and homes will be provided before commencing regular visits to ensure the comfort and safety of our volunteers.
