Croatian speaking Volunteer Visitor for friendly chats in Fortitude Valley

Seniors & Aged Care Regular - more than 6 months Fortitude Valley QLD

About this opportunity

Wesley Mission Queensland's Aged Care Volunteer Visitor program aims to brighten the lives of older people living in residential aged care who may be socially isolated or lonely due to a lack of quality time with relatives, for cultural reasons or due to disability.

We are looking for friendly people who are interested in making a difference in the lives of our community’s seniors by regularly visiting and being a social friend to individuals living in residential aged care in Fortitude Valley. In this particular role, a lady who grew up in former Yugoslavia would enjoy friendly conversation in Croatian, Serbian or Bosnian whilst sharing a tea or coffee with you.

In the role of Aged Care Volunteer Visitor, you will assist in ensuring older people can remain actively engaged and inspired daily. Quality time shared can include chatting about a shared culture, working on a hobby together, or listening to music. You might take a stroll around the facility (mobility permitting), have a cuppa, or play a board game together.

Aged Care Volunteer Visitors are not involved in providing clinical or personal care to the people they visit.

Wesley Mission Queensland is a welcoming and rewarding place to volunteer, where you will meet many wonderful people and learn new skills that may assist you personally and professionally. There are lots of other benefits to volunteering with us as well, such as:

  • Supply and pay for any security checks required for the position
  • Great education opportunities
  • Exclusive shopping discounts
  • Access to online and face-to-face wellness advisors
  • Invitations to social events
  • Being part of a team that really is making a difference in the lives of lonely and isolated seniors living in your local community.

This role follows a COVID-19 safe work plan, and all volunteers work under the conditions of entry and rules for visiting made by the Residential Aged Care Home.
