Tetun Translator

Education & Training Regular - more than 6 months Anywhere

About this opportunity

BETTER (Building East Timor Through Education/Resources) is an Australian registered charity dedicated to enhancing the communities of East Timor through education. Our vision is to provide a "hand-up" rather than a "hand-out," creating prosperity for future generations.

The Role
BETTER is actively seeking a Tetun Translator, reporting directly to the General Manager, whose main responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Interpret and translate between English and Tetun
  • Translate both spoken and written language

For the right candidate, this voluntary opportunity has great potential to gain further exposure as well as taking the lead on their own projects.

In terms of time commitment, we have a flexible approach to this, as we understand everyone is different. In order to achieve our ambitious mission, we request you commit approx. 3 hours per week.

At BETTER, we're more than just a charity; we're a dedicated community of individuals committed to making a positive impact in East Timor. Our success is powered by our passionate volunteers, and we're always on the lookout for individuals who have the talent to "help BETTER be BETTER." When you join us, you'll have the freedom to "work your own way" and contribute in a manner that suits you best.

Here's what you can look forward to as a volunteer at BETTER:

Transforming Lives: As a member of the BETTER community, you'll be changing the lives of children and leaving a lasting legacy in their communities.

Tailored Opportunities: We understand that everyone is unique. That's why we offer you the flexibility to work in a way that best works for you.

Staying Connected: Join our vibrant community with fortnightly team meetings that provide the perfect platform to connect, share, and check in on progress against the strategic plan for our refreshed strategy and vision for 2038.

Driving Change: Our volunteer team in Australia serves as the "engine room" for what we want to achieve on the ground in East Timor.

Collaborative Spirit: At BETTER, we foster collaboration across various teams, working with like-minded people who have a diverse skills and knowledge base.

Win-Win Relationship: We believe in cultivating a "win-win relationship." Your involvement with BETTER isn't just about giving; it's about your own growth and skill development to help you in your career.

Professional Growth: Join us for mentoring opportunities and professional development that will expand your skillset(s) and open doors to meaningful connections with other passionate individuals.

Career Advancement: BETTER enhances your resume to become a standout candidate in the job market and provides employment references. To date, 10% of our volunteers have either "gained new employment or been promoted in their paid careers."

BETTER is more than just a charity; it's a life-changing journey waiting for you. Join us and become a part of something truly remarkable, "a win-win relationship" and a "win-win culture" where your involvement with BETTER can increase your employability and accelerate your career.
