Support workers for disadvantaged girls and women

Community Services Regular - more than 6 months Anywhere

About this opportunity

Many Australians are adjusting to the shift towards digital connections – online meetings, online interviews, online medical appointments. More and more we are pushed to do everything online. Unfortunately, there are large numbers of people who can’t make that adjustment quite so readily because of affordability, access and/or capability. We talk with people – that’s what so many people miss - regular conversations. With many we also are improving their digital skills, setting up emails, MyGov accounts, resumes, looking for work, helping them fill out forms, access benefits, print, scan, copy, it's all about CONNECTION.
We would love your help if you are a good conversationalist, have a genuine desire to help people in need, and are familiar with (not necessarily an expert in) computers and other technology. We are particularly looking for volunteers who are prepared to provide phone support on a weekly basis to people in need. This is a check-in service, helping people who are lonely to debrief their week, to figure out what’s next in their lives. You will need to have good interpersonal and communication skills. Some background or experience in counselling or social work would be advantageous but many of our partners just want someone to talk to, someone to connect with. Working with Children cards are required but can be obtained once registered. Experience dealing with vulnerable people is advantageous.
It doesn’t matter where in Australia you are based if you want to help us with phone support - you would be working from the comfort of your own living room. We would only require a minimum of one or two hours per week. Imagine if we all spoke sincerely with one disconnected person every week, we would eradicate loneliness!!!
