About this opportunity
- Gain valuable experience working in the community while providing companionship and friendship to someone experiencing vulnerability.
- 12-month position
- Days and times flexible
Red Cross supports elderly members of the community to be more independent, to improve their wellbeing and social connection, and to remain living in their local community. We do this by matching volunteers with an older person who lives in aged care or at home and experiences social isolation.
This role suits someone over the age of 18 who feels comfortable in engaging with elderly people from different cultural backgrounds and walks of life. You need to be a good listener with a friendly manner. The commit is a minimum of one hour a week for a social visit. Activities that you may do during your visit include doing cross words or puzzles, reminisce, listen to music, read the newspaper or play card games.
As a Community Visitor, you’ll brighten the life of someone experiencing vulnerability by offering them company and friendship. Red Cross will ensure you have training, ongoing support and access to other opportunities within the World’s largest humanitarian network.
