Horticulture/Landscape Volunteer

Young People Regular - more than 6 months Seaton SA

About this opportunity

SYC has a relentless belief in people and their potential. We provide services that foster wellbeing, independence and opportunity for all Australians.

SYC Ltd is an Australian, non-for-profit, community based organisation that has a long tradition of helping young people change their lives for the better. Since 1958 we have helped thousands of people find a safe place to sleep, deal with personal issues, finish school, and reconnect with their families.

We are currently looking for expressions of interest for this position at SYC's Studio West, a group learning environment, located in Seaton Park. It provides an ACARA (Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority) and SACE (South Australian Certificate of Education) based learning program, delivered by registered teachers. SYC Case Managers on site provide support to assist with learning engagement and wellbeing development.

The workshop is focused on teaching horticulture and/or landscaping skills to high school students in an enjoyable and supportive environment, as well as encouraging creativity, and fostering the appreciation and love for plants. Volunteers in this program provide a valuable service to our community of young people.

Volunteers are required to attend Volunteer Training, Safe Environments of Children and Young People Training, must be willing to complete a DHS - Working with Children Check and a Police Clearance, and complete all other relevant training for the role. The cost of these will be covered by SYC.

A high level of patience and communication and a commitment to providing a supportive environment for learning and well-being is essential.
