About this opportunity

We are seeking a Live-In Youth Mentor that is a mature adult that will live in a share house with another Mentor, as well as two young people aged 16-18 who were previously in foster care or residential care. As a Mentor you will be a role model housemate that teaches the young people independent living skills, provide emotional support and helps keep them connected to friends, family and the community. Mentors also oversee the day to day running of the household and liaise with the caseworkers who provide support and assistance to the young residents. As a volunteer you will make a real difference in the lives of young people. This role can easily be combined with existing work or study.

Qualifications/skills:

Previous Mentoring Experience with Youth Preferred but not essential. Background in Community Services, Youth Work, Health, Education and Mentoring is desirable, though not essential. Ideal for someone studying Youth Work or Social Work or who currently/previously volunteers with young people in the community.

Volunteer duties:

Act as positive role model and provide support and education to assist the young people in developing their independent living skills, which may include cooking, cleaning, budgeting, financial management, grocery shopping etc. Participate equally in domestic chores and duties and to ensure that any conflicts arising within the household are dealt with in a positive and productive manner. As a Live-In Youth Mentor you will be provide informal supervision and support in the evenings and assist young people in the house transition to independent living once they turn 18.

This is a Live-In Youth Mentor Role. You will live at a property in Wantirna South rent
free with young people (aged 16-18) but like any teenager, you are mainly only
required to provide informal supervision and support in the evenings. You can
easily combine with your work or study commitments. Training and 24 Hour
Support is provided.
Mature adults with some out of home living experience is preferred.
