WomEmpower Program Volunteer

About this opportunity

Hotham Mission is a not-for-profit organisation providing community support for people in and around North Melbourne, Flemington and Kensington. We deliver community development programs using an asset based approach that prioritises self determination.

We are seeking volunteers to assist our WomEmpower program, a program designed with and for young women aged 16-25 (ish) who have a connection to inner north west Melbourne.

The program aims to foster leadership skills and embrace community through fun, weekly activities including (but not limited to) craft, cooking, gardening, sports, movies, career exploration and culture & language exchange.

We are seeking volunteers with diverse skills, strengths and interests who are keen to jump in and try activities, learn from participants and each other, and contribute to a vibrant, safe and supportive space.

The WomEmpower program runs on Wednesdays online via Zoom and in person at Kensington Town Hall, and volunteers are generally required to attend from 4pm-7pm although there is flexibility with this.

Hotham Mission celebrates diversity in all forms and encourages all who are interested to apply. For those applying to volunteer in person, Kensington Town Hall has ramp and lift facilities.

Applicants must have/apply for a Working with Children Check, consent to a Police Check, be able to show their current Covid-19 vaccination certificate and follow the Hotham Mission Code of Conduct and Covid-19 policies.

The skills that would be most beneficial include: -Experience working with young people from diverse backgrounds -Great communication and organisational skills -Familiarity with the inner north and west Melbourne area -A strong sense of initiative and a positive work ethic

The duties required of volunteers include:

  • Assisting with the implementation and running of sessions
  • Promoting a safe space for active participation
  • Participating in team meetings to help plan activities
  • Administration duties as required


Additional requirements

Covid-19 vaccination . National Police Certificate *. Working with Children Check *.

Time Required

The position is based online via Zoom and in person in Kensington. This role requires approximately 3 hours of volunteer time per week, including administrative and preparation. Volunteers are required from 4pm-7pm on Wednesdays during term time.
