Leaders and side walkers

Recreation Regular - less than 6 months Marlow Lagoon NT

About this opportunity

RDA Top End is looking to add a few more regular volunteers to our dedicated volunteer base (3 to 8 volunteers per day). Each day from Tuesday to Saturday we run 1 - 4 sessions where our participants have the opportunity to either ride or groom a horse. This improves their skills and abilities in areas ranging from gross and fine motor skills to social, emotional and communication abilities.

We welcome support for 2 to 4 hours one or several days. While we would love to see you all year long we are welcoming volunteers who can commit for a school term (10 week bock). This give our participants some consistency as some find changes challenging.

Your role as a volunteer is to saddle up and tack down horses for sessions, lead or side walk a horse during mounted sessions or support participants completing grooming task in an unmounted setting.

RDA Top End provide training:

  • Stage 1: induction to familiarize you with the centre
  • Stage 2: safety around horses, horse communication, leading and side walking, mounting and dismounting in the RDA setting and rider communication

We look forward to welcoming you to the team!
