Workbench Recovery Support Volunteer/Worker
About this opportunity
ADo you have a woodwork background with some mental health training and group work experience? If so this is a unique volunteer role that could lead to some paid work also. The Workbench program offer a psychosocial based Day-2-Day support program, which gives individuals with a primary mental health diagnosis, the ability to participate in supported social groups with semi-structured activities.
Workbench is available for both men and women, running on different days to provide greater options for inclusion, with a men’s specific program run every Thursday, a women’s specific program run on alternate Wednesday’s, and a mixed program run every second Saturday. A male person is preferred for this role. The role of the Workbench Recovery Support volunteer is either assisting to run or to run the program in which case the role may become a paid role.
Facilitating camping weekends or trips away, in conjunction with the groups wants. Maintenance of woodworking tools and machines. Safety inductions and risk assessments around power tool use for each attendee. One on one support when identified throughout the day should the need arise, whilst considering the group dynamic. Some Administration may be required – i.e. entering case notes after each day of program.
Additional requirements
Covid-19 vaccination . Driver's Licence (C) .
Some or all of the following would be advantageous but not all are necessary.
Preferred:
A trade background or previous experience in woodwork.
Mental health cert IV or other relevant mental health qualifications (ie. Peer Support).
Previous experience in group facilitation.
Occupational Health & Safety background or experience.
An understanding of person-centred support delivery.
Helpful:
Previous experience in creating recovery plans.
Proficient use of Microsoft office suite (including outlook).
You must have full working rights within Australia and possess/be willing to obtain:
National Police Clearance
Working with Children Check
Driver’s License
NDIS worker screen check
Evidence of Covid-19 vaccination (please note that this is a requirement under the recent mandate - 20/10/2021, requiring a first vaccination by 1st December 2021).
