Volunteer Leaders play a key role in creating a warm, friendly environment where young people feel safe, included and valued, enabling friendships to flourish.

  • The Volunteer Senior Leader position is responsible for leading the youth program.
  • Volunteer Senior Leaders manage challenging behaviours with respect, paying close attention to safety, wellbeing and risk management.
  • Volunteer Senior Leaders work closely with Vinnies Youth staff members, ensuring the Society’s vision, values and policies are implemented correctly within the Youth Program.

Volunteer Senior Leaders are positive role models who guide and lead by example.

Responsibilities for the role involve:

  1. Planning and preparation of Youth Programs, involving the coordination of Volunteer Leaders and communication of plans.
  2. Working with Youth staff members to deliver a Youth Program which meets outcomes and has a meaningful impact on young people and Volunteer Leaders participating in the program.
  3. Creating a warm positive environment where Volunteer Leaders and young people feel safe and supported, and friendships can be developed.
  4. Creating meaningful and engaging activities to foster growth and development.
  5. Supervising Volunteer Leaders, ensuring that Volunteer Leaders are following Youth Program Policy and Procedures and risk controls highlighted in activity Risk Management Plans.
  6. Developing Volunteer Leaders as role models on Youth Programs and encouraging positive relationships between all young people and Volunteer Leaders.
  7. Supporting Volunteer Leaders in their Society journey, providing meaning and value, and enriching their volunteering experience
  8. Maintaining a safe environment for all participants by ensuring Youth events are compliant with Youth Program Policy and Procedures and Risk Management Plans.
  9. Promoting the safety and wellbeing of young people by raising concerns immediately and in accordance with the Society’s Child Protection Policy.
  10. Responding to disruptive or inappropriate behaviour with a caring and respectful approach and supporting Volunteer Leaders to respond in a similar manner.
  11. Supporting the development of a volunteer community, where Volunteer Leaders feel valued, respected, engaged and connected to the greater mission of the Society.
  12. Adhering to standards of behaviour outlined in the Society Code of Conduct for Child Related Activities.


Additional requirements

National Police Certificate *. Working with Children Check *.
