Early Literacy Program Officer

Young People Regular - more than 6 months Bunbury WA

About this opportunity

The volunteer will assist with the early literacy program Paint Bunbury REaD which promotes the importance of the first few years of life in a child's development and encourages the whole community to get on board to "talk, read, sing, rhyme, yard, draw and play with children every day from birth so they are ready for reading and writing at school." The volunteer will assist with various jobs to support the coordinator such as:

  • monitoring the book swap boxes and replacing, adding to and repairing books when needed. The book swap boxes are wooden boxes filled with preloved books for young children that have been in various places around Bunbury, in particular around Withers and Carey Park.
    • helping create some of the resources such as the Paint the Town REaD red "splotches"
  • assist at storytime and community events that Paint Bunbury REaD is taking part in. The volunteer will be supported by the Paint the Town REaD Coordinator and will make contact with various people working in the early years sector in Bunbury. Paint Bunbury REaD is a fun and popular program with lots of opportunities for connecting with people and being creative.
