Volunteer Mentor
About this opportunity
Volunteer mentor- WAM assists vulnerable women at risk of offending or those who have been charged with a criminal offence, to navigate the complex justice system, reduce reoffending, and build social connections through matching them with a screened and trained volunteer mentor. The mentor relationship encourages positive change, through social interaction and inclusion and in offering support to access services. The overall aim is to reduce the likelihood of re-offending through role-modelling of appropriate behaviours, gentle challenging of anti-social behaviours and reinforcement of positive change.
Additional requirements
Driver's Licence (C) . National Police Certificate *. Working with Children Check *.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Highly developed interpersonal skills

Availability during the day
The ability to exhibit a non judgemental attitude to offending behaviours, whilst at the same time challenging inappropriate behaviours.
A warm and practical approach
The capacity to commit to the program for at least 12 months
The capacity to be assertive and set firm boundaries
WAM mentors are good listeners who trust that women are the experts in their own experiences.
Desirable- Some existing knowledge of local community services and the criminal justice system would be a great advantage.
Approx 1 to 3 hours a week, hours/days depends on participants needs
