Are you interested in raising funds to help save orangutans, other critically endangered species, and the last rainforests of Indonesia?

The Orangutan Project is growing! We're developing a new Fundraising Team in Newcastle and we're looking for an experienced Team Leader to manage fundraising activities and recruit and train volunteers in Newcastle. Our Fundraising Team Leaders are one of the most important roles to help us grow, and the time to join us is now!

About the role

As the Newcastle Team Leader, you'll plan and coordinate local fundraising activities such as trivia nights and market stalls, raise awareness about the plight facing orangutans and other Critically Endangered species, and recruit and manage a team of new volunteers. Our Team Leaders play a central role in raising much-needed funds to save orangutans from extinction. The role reports and is supported by the Volunteers Fundraising Manager.

Key tasks of a Team Leader

  • Recruit, manage and train new Fundraising and Events Volunteers
  • Plan and coordinate local fundraising events and other fundraising activities
  • Book and set up merchandise stalls at markets and festivals
  • Talk to people about the threats facing orangutans and how we're addressing these threats in Sumatra and Borneo
  • Manage, store and transport merchandise and stall equipment
  • Manage fundraising targets, bank funds raised and maintain associated records
  • Communicate regularly with your volunteers, TOP staff and the Volunteers Fundraising Manager
  • Adhere to TOP's policies, procedures and Code of Conduct

About you

You're passionate about the environment, especially about saving orangutans and other species from extinction, and about protecting the rainforests we all rely on.

You are a proactive self-starter and an excellent communicator who loves getting out and about in your local community. You have time and energy to put into this role, including volunteering on some weekends and evenings.

You have experience in either team management or fundraising. A good understanding of customer service principles, strong organisational skills, and being able to work in a virtual environment will also help you be a successful Fundraising Team Leader.

Additional requirements

Driver's Licence (C) . Working with Children Check *.

You must have the right to volunteer in Australia. You will need a driver's licence and access to a car to transport merchandise and equipment. You will also need space to store merchandise and equipment. You will also need to have or apply for a Working With Children Check (also known as a Blue Card or a Working with Vulnerable Card).

Time Required

Fundraising Team Leaders volunteer for around 12+ hours per month, usually on weekends and some evenings. Hours will vary, depending on the time of year and the activities you have planned.
