About this opportunity

THE POSTION Reporting to the Education Support Coordinator, and working with other child care workers, the child care worker looks after children of parents who are taking part in programs at the Friends of Refugees centre and provide fun and educational activities while parents are in an adjacent room.

Children will generally be between the ages of 3 months and 7 years.

DUTIES • Plan, prepare and organise age-appropriate activities • Organise the children’s area, ensuring a hygienic, safe and child-friendly environment • Care for children while their parents are participating in FOR programs and activities onsite • Under the guidance of parents and the Education Support Coordinator coordinator, prepare and dispense refreshments • Take children to the bathroom as required • Clean-up after sessions end • Immediately call parents if a child is distressed or ill


Additional requirements

National Police Certificate *. Working with Children Check *.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
• Experience in caring for young children
• Experience in working with children and families from culturally and linguistically diverse
backgrounds (CALD)
• A qualification in, or progress towards, a child care qualification is desirable
• A strong commitment to social justice and human rights, particularly refugee and asylum seeker
rights, and an understanding of the challenges facing refugees and asylum seekers
