Himilo Community Connect is looking for a number of learning mentors to join their team to support school and community based homework club programs. Himilo Community Connect works in partnership with schools and community to improve educational and employment outcomes for Australian-Somali youth while promoting social cohesion and community connection.

Learning mentors work with individual or small groups of students from 5 to 14 years of age to provide academic support and enrichment in a range of subject areas, including Maths, Science, English, and Humanities.

Aside from providing academic support, learning mentors work with students to increase learner engagement, confidence and motivation and career pathway success.

**A minimum of one hour per week is required. **

Duties and responsibilities Learning Mentors are required to provide one hour (minimum) of tutoring support per week through the school terms. Learning mentors act as an academic coach and positive role model to primary and secondary school aged students. They work with young people to develop their skills and understanding in Math, English, Science and Humanities. While tutors do not teach, they are trained to guide and facilitate learning, encourage higher order thinking and study skills. Skills and experience Applicants should demonstrate: • Experience or ability in providing sound academic learning support • Identification with the values of our program and experience or interest in working with young people • Strong interpersonal, organisation and communication skills • A willingness to undergo a National Police check

Time Required
