About this opportunity
A mentor is an everyday person who likes to help others, especially young people. The simple act of a walk or a game of basketball, a hot chocolate and a smile, providing opportunity for conversation and connection can make the world of difference to a young person who feels disconnected and unheard. You could be this person, someone who provides opportunity for the young person to be empowered and to continue making positive choices in their life. As a mentor, you would be involved in befriending and supporting a young person who is in the care of the Department for Communities. You would be supporting the young person as a stable and positive role model; someone who takes the time to build a relationship that encourages growth and success in their life. You would need to be able to commit for a minimum of 12 months, though we hope this may last much longer. Your commitment is based around catching up with the young person every 2 weeks for 2-5 hours at a time. We provide training and ongoing support through supervision, to ensure you are in the best possible place to provide these opportunities for the young person you are matched with.
