Carbon Challenge - Research and Calculations Advisor

Environment & Conservation Regular - less than 6 months Anywhere

About this opportunity

Citizens' Climate Lobby Australia is running a Carbon Challenge from 17-23 May 2021. We're looking for dedicated and committed people to help with researching and calculating carbon footprints for the challenge. The premise is the year is 2025 and the Australian Government has just legislated a price on carbon at $50 per tonne. CCL members from across Australia will compete to see who can have the lowest carbon footprint during the one week period. The 5 areas we’ll be calculating for people’s carbon footprint are electricity, gas, transport, food and waste. Full details of the challenge can be found on the Citizens' Climate Lobby Australia website, under Upcoming Events, scroll down to May then click on the "More info..." link. Also see Australian Climate Dividend under the Our Solution top menu on the website.

LOCATION: Anywhere. This is an online role so can be carried out anywhere in the world.

TIME: 5 - 6 hours per week

The plan is to have our first Zoom meeting on the night of Wednesday 14 April to touch base and plan for the Challenge in May. There's a number of logistics we'll need to discuss as well as research that will need to be done. We'll then have subsequent meetings every 1-2 weeks to touch base and check on progress. The role will require being available for Zoom meetings on weeknights and being able to complete tasks and research in between meetings.

To be successful in this role, the person will have:

  • an interest in climate change, carbon pricing and carbon footprints

  • a love of climate research and carbon calculations

  • a high attention to detail

  • ability to liaise and communicate well with others in the CCL Australia team.

  • a diligent, positive and enthusiastic attitude

  • a passion for climate change, advocacy and Citizens’ Climate Lobby Australia

This is a role suited to a person with a great attention to detail, research skills and calculations expertise.

The right person will enjoy being a part of the friendly CCL Australia Team.
