Playgroup Facilitator

About this opportunity

Woodcroft Morphett Vale Neighbourhood Centre requires a volunteer to assist & support families to run a community playgroup. Primary responsibilities and key tasks include : • Promote an environment where children and parents are welcomed and accepted • Report cases of concern regarding families to Playgroup Coordinator / CDO / CDSO / Venue Hire Officer or VSO immediately • Deliver consistent and appropriate behaviour messages and measure to participants • Ensure the Work and Health and Safety of team members – liaise with others if necessary (e.g. Risk and Audit Sub-committee, Playgroups Coordinator, CDO etc). • Mentor and manage new volunteers through probationary period – report any issues to VSO • Advise VSO of official start date of any new playgroup volunteers and get playgroup volunteers leaving to give written / email notice to VSO • Being able to implement playgroup appropriate programs • Be willing to clean and sanitize all items/ equipment in playgroup, be willing to delegate and direct volunteers/ participants to assist where required • Ability to keep order within a group and ensure standards or behaviour are followed (people management) • Ability to adapt to Centre/ Community/ Legal changes as and when necessary (adapt to health – e.g. COVID19 – and safety changes) • Ensure Playgroup Coordinator has all paperwork and information required to maintain smooth running and administration of Playgroups Time Commitment

Essential skills include :
• An outgoing and friendly disposition and an ability to interact with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds
• Good organisational skills
• An understanding of Centre Policies and Procedures
• Must be non-judgmental, non-discriminatory and conform to the Code of Conduct
• Reliable and committed to the Centre – volunteers, staff, and participants
• Mature and stable with a calm approach to a challenge or crisis
• Good communication skills
• Ability to understand and apply Playgroup policies and procedures in the workplaces
• Clean and neat appearance; dress is casual
• An understanding of the importance of play during early childhood
• Ability to learn/ implement playgroup programs
• Be able to work in a cohesive group – with the playgroup coordinator, other facilitators and Neighbourhood Centre volunteers
• Demonstrate commitment to regular attendance and punctuality to fulfil the role requirements
• Be able to run a team/ work within a team environment.
Desirable skills include :
• Awareness of workplace Health and Safety and the requirements of Equal Opportunity Act and Disability Discrimination Act
• First Aid and or Infant First Aid would be desirable
• Bringing ideas to the group for new programs

Time Required

To be arranged on an individual basis with the Volunteer Support Officer – Recruitment. Session times are 2.5 hours including set-up and pack-up time. On top of this you will be expected to attend training, meetings plus form and implement programs.
