About this opportunity
Kookaburra Kids helps young people get respite from their families suffering from mental illness. They run Activity Days Monday to Friday in the afternoons and early evenings. e.g. of activities, Bowling, Laser tag, mini golf, movies etc. Volunteer assist young people and the program coordinator at the activity.
Kookaburra Kids also provides Connect, which is an online chat group where volunteers attend a 1 hour training session and a couple of observations before they can run a session involving an activity. It doesn't involve any counselling and the young person will be referred to appropriate services who specialise in this.
Kookaburra Kids have weekend camps but due to COVID these have been suspended until further notice.
A Volunteer leader will: • Activity engages with AKKF young people on whilst on program. • Communicate and support young people whilst on program, building a relationship of trust. • Have fun and get involved in the respective activity, assisting young people as needed. • Support and follow the directions of the Program Coordinators and Program Assistants in delivering Program activities. • Maintain confidentiality of a young person’s personal details. • Maintain confidentiality of your own personal details, adhere to AKKF boundaries across all programs in relation to engaging with young people. • Report any issues or areas of concern to the Program Coordinator, Program Assistant, or another staff member of a child protection issue. • Assist with organising the young people where required. • Attend all briefings and training sessions.
We are looking for people who are passionate about helping young people, enjoy getting involved in activities, assisting and engaging with young people. As a person they would need to be trustworthy, helpful, reliable and punctual.

National Police Certificate *. Working with Children Check *.
AKKF will fund the cost of the Police check, Blue card will be transferred across or AKKF will help volunteers apply for the card.
