Community is Everything Regional Lead Activist
About this opportunity
Amnesty’s Community is Everything (CiE) campaign seeks to end the overrepresentation of Indigenous children in the Australian criminal justice system, and calls for governments to support more Indigenous-led solutions for kids and change laws for a fairer youth justice system. As a Regional Lead Activist you will take action to help further the goals of the Community is Everything campaign in your region, and will provide support and guidance for the work of other activists in your region.
This role is an exciting leadership opportunity that will further develop your experiences in grassroots campaigning and community and political engagement. We are accepting applicants from the Australian Capital Territory, the Northern Territory, Western Australia and Queensland.
This role is responsible for:
Developing a regional CiE campaign plan with the support of key staff and with feedback from other regional activists, rights-holders and community members
Developing an action plan based on your regional CiE campaign plan and taking a proactive leadership role in the execution of campaign actions throughout the year, especially during key mobilisation moments
Helping support the growth of the CiE activist base in your region with the support of staff and activists in your region
Building close relationships with key activists and action groups in the region and supporting them to increase their engagement in the CiE campaign
Regularly providing campaign updates to your regional Activist Leadership Committee and the broader Amnesty International activist movement to generate excitement and engagement with the CiE campaign
Keeping up to date with youth justice news and policy updates in your region to ensure our work remains informed and responsive
Participating in campaign evaluations in collaboration with staff, groups, rights holders and fellow activists

* As each organisation provides different levels/types of insurance, volunteers are reminded to check with the organisation as to the type of insurance provided for volunteers (e.g. Volunteer Personal Accident Insurance).
* Best practice volunteer involvement recommends that a volunteer role should not be more than 15-16 hours per week.
Average of 2-3 hours per week to be completed on days and at times that fit with your schedule (the time commitment may increase at particular peak times). Minimum 6 - 12 months commitment.
