About this opportunity

Position Duties: • Provide non-judgmental, friendly, empathetic and compassionate customer service in a manner that upholds the dignity and privacy of the client • Assist people in crisis by providing emergency relief which can include distributing food, supermarket vouchers, fuel cards, phone cards, travel cards and other financial assistance. • Assist people seeking information and/or support by accessing information from brochures or Internet databases • Identify and assess client requests and needs and provide referral to appropriate agencies and assistance programs • Advocate on behalf of clients and help them to access other assistance programs - CSWs are interviewers and not counsellors. • Provide practical administrative support as required (e.g. help with printing, drafting letters, filling out forms) • Follow established agency policies and procedures as required

Additional requirements

National Police Certificate *. Working with Children Check *.

Selection Criteria:
• Ideally, have a certificate level in Community Services, Mental Health or Social work OR be undertaking study in a similar field OR demonstrated work experience in a similar field
• Have empathy, compassion and a non-judgmental attitude to people who are experiencing financial hardship or crisis at all times
• Respectful of each client as an individual with his/her own life experiences, values and perspectives
• Able to work effectively with people from various socio-economic levels and cultural backgrounds
• Good listening and communication skills
• Good computer literacy
• Able to work well within a team environment
• Able to commit to a minimum of one volunteer shift per week
• Able to work with integrity to maintain ethical principals
• Pass a National Police Certificate and Working With Children Check

Time Required

Time Commitment: Rostered shifts are from Monday to Friday 9.30am to 12.30pm and 12.30pm to 3.30pm.
