The program

Our Migration Support Programs provide help and support to refugees, asylum seekers, immigration detainees and other people who are vulnerable as a result of migration.

We do this through a range of migration programs services and programs that protect and uphold the health, dignity and wellbeing of vulnerable migrants. We also provide services to reconnect family members whose loss of contact is caused by international or internal conflict, war and disaster.

The opportunity

Support vulnerable community members in Victoria by being part of the food delivery program. Based in North Melbourne, you will help lead a group of volunteer drivers and food packers to prepare food packs and have them delivered to community members in a timely manner. You will utilise your expertise in logistics and/or rostering, provide administrative support with managing data and preparing reports and you will engage with stakeholders to collect food from local food donation organisations. In overseeing the food packing and delivery you will ensure that safe manual handling, food handling and safe food practices are adhered to. Your excellent communications skills will be appreciated in this friendly team and you will be able to work independently or be able to share the workload.

This volunteer role requires you to be able to lift 12kg food packs and ensure safe manual handling practices at all times. Volunteers are also required to have a valid Australian Drivers licence and be able to use own car with insurance (reimbursement will be applied).

The impact

As a Migration Support Programs volunteer, you’ll help improve the wellbeing of people suffering vulnerability as a result of migration. Red Cross will ensure you have training, ongoing support and access to other opportunities within the World’s largest humanitarian network.
