About this opportunity

Fishability is currently establishing a fishing program in Bunbury, which will enable adults and children with special needs the opportunity to participate in recreational fishing. As a volunteer in this position you will help people with disabilities experience the fun of fishing by:

  • Giving practical assistance - setting up fishing gear, baiting and casting a line, and catch care;
  • Showing an awareness of current rules and regulations regarding recreational fishing;
  • Developing relationships with participants to enhance their self-esteem, life skills, awareness of the environment and experience a quality outdoor activity. Volunteers are not expected to assist with personal care of participants as support workers accompany all participants.

Additional requirements

National Police Certificate *. Working with Children Check *.

Commitment to the ethos and values of Fishability, ability to work as part of a team, enjoy interacting with and supporting people with disabilities, WWC and Police Clearance (obtained on appointment and payable by Agency)

Time Required

2-3 hours per month (more if wanted). Fishability usually has a 6-7 week break over the summer months and a 10-12 week break over the winter months.
