Volunteer Cooks for Community Meals
About this opportunity
The Volunteer Cooks for Community Meals will be working as part of a small team to prepare and serve a regular free meal for the community, in the kitchen located at ‘Bernie’s Place’. This project aims to engage disadvantaged members of the community and provide a nourishing meal and social interaction opportunities, along with access to information and referrals to other appropriate services. The role may include:
- Creating a welcoming environment that is respectful and inclusive for clients experiencing disadvantage.
- Planning and development of meals in conjunction with our Food Rescue Program
- Allocating tasks amongst the volunteer team
- Liaising with MGCCI staff and volunteers around food donation supply and availability.
- Preparing and serving a weekly/fortnightly meal

Skills and attributes required for the role include:
- Experience and confidence in catering / cooking
- Empathetic and non-judgemental attitude
- Ability to engage with vulnerable members of the community from diverse backgrounds
- Strong organisational skills
- Creative with the ability to plan and organise meals with limited or varied ingredients
- Patience and the ability to work with people with differing needs and abilities
- An interest in developing skills and knowledge around community services
- Willingness to work as part of a team.
Minimum 5 hours per week - Fridays from 9am - 2pm. Must be able to commit for a minimum of 6 months.
