Op Shop Assistant
About this opportunity
We sell quality recycled clothes, household goods and toys at low prices, and donate some of the goods received to other missional groups in Qld and overeas. We also operate our emergency food distribution centre through the Op Shop.
We need volunteers to help us manage the increasing workload. If you can assist us with customer service, sorting of goods and pricing of goods and are passionate about retail and customer service, please contact us. Depending on your assigned area, your duties may include:
- Organizing merchandise on shop floor
- Assisting customers
- Processing payments at the register, including operating Eftpos machine
- Maintaining store in clean and tidy condition
- Attaching and updating pricing tags on merchandise
- Sorting through donations of goods
The ideal person will have the following:
- Ability to cooperate and work as part of a team
- Customer service skills
- Punctuality and ability to communicate (your availability/non-availability)
- Empathy and desire to serve members of the community
- Some heavy lifting can be required in some volunteer areas. If you are not able to lift, please advise the shop manager, so you can be placed accordingly.

Additional requirements
The Op Shop operates Monday-Friday, 9am-4pm and Saturday 9am-1pm. Assistance for any morning or afternoon shift is appreciated. A regular ongoing committment to work a shift on a weekly or fortnightly base will greatly assist with populating our rosters. Alternatively if you cannot make a regular commitment but have flexibility, please let the shop manager know if you can be available as a backup to fill shifts on low attendance days.
