About this opportunity
The Aurous Digital Connection Program is an initiative of Aurous, where isolated elderly people are given call-ready computer tablets and participate in a weekly video call with a volunteer “video visitor”. That visitor could be you.
Isolation and loneliness are two of the biggest problems facing individuals and communities, especially in our ageing population. Research shows that people who maintain social relationships live longer, healthier and more fulfilled lives. We need you to share your interests, your enthusiasm and your life with someone who may just need a friendly face and ear. As little as half an hour a week can make a significant difference to someone’s life. We need volunteers all around Australia, from all different cultural backgrounds, age groups and genders!
Very little training is needed, but we will provide full training in how to make video calls from your home device, what to talk about and how to be an effective part of the Aurous team.
Aurous aims to enrich the quality of life of seniors, who may be socially isolated or lonely, whether it be for social or cultural reasons, to disability, or simply an effect of aging. The program is federally funded and works to connect socially isolated seniors with volunteers for regular social interaction. The only cost to you will be a little time.
The Aurous Digital Connection Program is proudly offering services to a diverse range of clientele and have recently included multicultural, LGBTI and ATSI coordinators and volunteers.
