Health One off - an event Speers Point NSW

About this opportunity

Dementia is a condition that has the greatest social and economic impact on our time. For this reason, Memory Walk & Jog is not only a vital fundraising drive for Dementia Australia, it is also an opportunity to raise community awareness, promote the importance of healthy lifestyles and encourage the community to come together in a fun and active way to help make a difference for people impacted by dementia.

In 2021, the Hunter Memory Walk & Jog event will be held at Speers Point Park, Speers Point on Sunday 30 May 2021. We need volunteers on the day from 6:00am to midday for a variety of different roles. I encourage you to volunteer for the event, and invite your friends, family, and colleagues to join you.

Dementia Australia takes the safety of our volunteers very seriously - our COVID-19 Undertaking ensures you are aware of how we are keeping our volunteers safe, and what you can do to help keep others safe whilst volunteering. All of our Memory Walk & Jog events have COVID safe plans tailored to each event.

No special skills, experience or training is required - just your presence and enthusiasm. There is a job to suit everyone, some tasks may include:

  • directing and encouraging participants around the course
  • handing out cups of water
  • assisting with registrations
  • selling merchandise
  • handing out fundraising packs

We'll provide a virtual briefing in the week of the event, and an in person briefing on the morning of the event, so you can learn all about the task assigned to you. You will receive a volunteer certificate after the event season for your tremendous contribution!

Some of our last year's volunteers, have described their experience as "extremely enjoyable" and said their "spirits were lifted by being in the presence of like-minded people" whilst knowing that they were helping to increase public awareness of dementia.
