The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this role on behalf of EACH Chinese Peer Connection.

Can you provide telephone peer support to people who are in the process of recovering from problem gambling behavior or related to others who are being impacted by someone else’s problem gambling? You will need to be Chinese speaking for this volunteer role.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Provide telephone peer support to people who are in the process of recovering from problem gambling behavior or related others who are being impacted by someone else’s problem gambling
  • Ensure that the day-to-day operations of the peer connection program are provided in a smooth and reliable manner
  • To undertake project work and conduct professional development training as appropriate
  • Represent the Chinese peer connection program at all community agencies and stakeholders which interface with the service in the State of Victoria as required
  • Providing role training, on-going training, and supervision

Skills and Experience:

  • Fluent speaking skills in Cantonese and/or Mandarin
  • If you had a gambling problem to have been free of that problem for at least 18 months
  • Minimum age of 21 years
  • Ability to work respectfully and non-judgmentally, acknowledging diversity in people's lives and experience of gambling
  • Willingness to work within Gambler’s Help Eastern policy framework
  • A commitment to act as a Chinese Peer Connection Volunteer for 1 year
  • Possession of a commitment to attend ongoing training and professional development as available and necessary

Time Required

Tuesday nights 4pm-8pm. Can be one to three hours, based on clients requirements.
