About this opportunity

The Volunteer Visitor will provide friendship and companionship through regular one-on-one/or group visits to older people residing in Australian Government Residential Aged Care Facilities and/or one-on-one visits to recipients of Footprints in Brisbane (Footprints) Home Care Packages (HCP) who are socially isolated or at risk of social isolation.

The activities will vary depending on clients’ and volunteers’ hobbies, interests and skills along with clients’ health, mobility and daily schedules and may include: • One-on-one visits • Small group residential visits • Games • Reminiscing/chatting • Letter reading/writing • Accompanied walking • Watching television • Listening to music

This is a role where you can volunteer with children, a partner or family member, or on your own.

Aged Care Volunteer Visitor Scheme recipients are as diverse as the community - If you speak a language other than English, we may have a client from a migrant background who would appreciate the chance to talk to you in their first language.

Once you have undertaken the Aged Care facility's orientation and met with a diversional therapist, you may be able to visit residents on weekends.

Service regions include South Coast, Darling Downs, Logan River Valley, Brisbane Sout, Brisbane North, West Moreton, Caboolture and Sunshine Coast Region.

RESPONSIBILITIES - WHAT WILL I BE DOING?
• Undertake visits with clients at least one hour per fortnight.
• Advise ACVVS Coordinator if unable to attend for a regular visit as soon as possible
• Attend training and social functions as required to maintain up-to-date information about the program
• Report any incidents or concerns regarding the welfare of clients to Footprints employees immediately
• Conduct themselves in a manner consistent with Footprints Vision, Mission and Values
• Maintain confidentiality of information regarding Footprints as an organisation, clients, carers, employees and other volunteers
• Work collaboratively with the program teams and refer all individual client related enquiries to the relevant employee
• Comply with Workplace Health and Safety and other relevant Footprints policies as instructed
• Seek guidance from and communication with employees if unclear about or unable to perform duties for any reason
• Complete paperwork and reports as required
