Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) – Sinhalese speaking Volunteer-Home Visit

Community Services Regular - more than 6 months Burnside SA

About this opportunity

Are you looking to make a difference in our community? Look no further! Multicultural Communities Council of SA (MCCSA) is inviting volunteers for their Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) project. We are looking for people from different nationalities who are happy to visit our seniors in Aged Care facilities or at their homes. You can support our elderly with the gift of companionship and help to reduce their loneliness and isolation. It is a perfect volunteering opportunity for people working, studying, or retired as it is flexible and yet so important! As an MCCSA Volunteer Visitor, you will be part of a community of more than 100 people, aged from 18 to 80 years. Our volunteers speak many different languages and come from diverse backgrounds; however, they all have kindness and a genuine desire to help in common. You also have access to free English conversation classes and Yoga classes, bi-monthly volunteer training (with replacement or lunch and a catch-up!), and also nights out. It’s an opportunity to meet new people, enlarge your network, improve your skills, and most of all, improve the quality of life of an older person. Travel expenses will be reimbursed for visits.

For applicants aged 55 and over, this volunteer job is recognised by Centrelink as contributing to your work requirement.

Other useful skills include good listening and communication skills, empathy and understanding of older people, patience, and willingness to act with integrity, respect, confidentiality, and dignity.

A National Police Certificate is required (we can assist you in applying for it - it's free).

Additional requirements

National Police Certificate *.

*Please note:
It’s important that organisations continue to monitor and follow the advice and guidelines of both State or Territory, and Federal Governments in relation to the latest COVID-19 and Flu vaccination requirements.
* As each organisation provides different levels/types of insurance, volunteers are reminded to check with the organisation as to the type of insurance provided for volunteers (e.g. Voluntary Workers Personal Accident Insurance).
* Best practice volunteer involvement recommends that a volunteer role should not be more than 15-16 hours per week.
