About this opportunity
This position involves watering gardens by hand and assisting the Gardener with other odd jobs around the grounds at Villa Vincent.
We are looking for someone with the ability to engage in conversations with our elderly residents and follow instructions and procedures regarding working in the gardens.
The suitable volunteer should be: personable, sociable, caring, a good listener and communicator, and reasonably fit and energetic.
You will gain the satisfaction of providing a service in a busy care facility and gaining some new skills. A reference can be provided if required.
This would suit retired people aged 55+.
Applicants for this position are also required:
- to be computer literate
- be prepared to do ongoing (annual) mandatory training modules
- have access to a computer (phone and tablets are not suitable devices for completing modules)
- be fit and active
- have documented evidence of receiving a current Influenza and Coronavirus vaccination
Covid-19 vaccination . Driver's Licence (C) . National Police Certificate *.
A 3 hour workplace orientation must be undertaken prior to beginning volunteer work. Support is provided for the completion of the online modules. A current Police Check Certification is required.
All positions require volunteers who are able bodied, and fit as they have physical work to do in mobilising residents in wheelchairs and heavy recliners, lifting items, working in the garden and laundry and so back injuries etc. preclude applicants.
Applicants must have their own computer (not a tablet or phone) and be computer literate. They must be willing to do online training every year. There are 10 training modules that have to be completed, mostly online.
There is also a Manual Handling training competency that has to be done by all volunteers.
