On Sunday 11 August Muscular Dystrophy will stage Run for Strength - a fun run/walk around Princes Park. We need volunteers to act as marshalls around the course making sure participants dont go the wrong way. It is an easy job but one that is crucial to the success of the event. Its a wonderful celebration of able bodied people coming together with those with a disability.

To accompany, support and interact in a unique Centre that caters for disadvantaged, disabled and /or people requiring support.

Volunteers assist our customers to participate in programs, and add value to the services that we offer. As a volunteer, you don’t need any specific qualifications or experience, just a genuine interest to empower people with disabilities and a willingness to share your skills. Volunteers are people just like you!

Interchange is a program within UMFC’s Carer Aged and Disability Service and provides support to children and young people with disability and their families/carers. Interchange is supported by volunteers to create social and recreational opportunities through group and individual activities. Group experiences include After School Activities, School Holiday Activities and other activities as planned.

Interested in music? Don’t mind a crowd? We have a fun, fast-paced role for you. Our monthly Saturday night disco is an event that provides an opportunity for people with disabilities to socialise and course- dance! Professional DJ music and light show included! We need an energetic, helpful volunteer who can assist with setting up, running of the disco activities on the night as well as a quick pack up and clean when finished.

Are you looking to make a real difference in someone’s life? Volunteer with Interchange and Host a young person living with disability. This extends their social network, offers them new opportunities and experiences, and provides a much needed break for their carer. Some volunteers have the young person stay at their place once a month. This also provides the young persons carer with some respite and support.

Are you looking to make a real difference in someone’s life? Volunteer with the Interchange Network of disability service providers and buddy up with a young person living with disability to spend regular time with them sharing hobbies or interests, going to the movies or a football game, or just hanging out watching your favourite shows at home.

Assist a young person with a disability to access recreational activities for a few hours or one day on a regular basis, at least once each month.

Peer support occurs when people with similar life experiences provide knowledge, experience, emotional, social or practical help to each other. VALID’s Peer Action Groups (PAG’s) provide an opportunity for people with disabilities to meet on a regular basis in their local community. PAG’s share information and knowledge, providing mutual support to engage in activities and projects that go on to build a more inclusive community.

Volunteers will support participants with intellectual and physical disabilities. You will support participants and staff with a range of activities throughout the day including arts and crafts, carpentry, swimming, literacy, computer skills, sports, gym, exercising, dancing, basketball, yoga, walking, theatre group, choir, money skills, using public transport, gardening, cooking, barbecues, bowling, fishing and mentoring and many others.

A Community based non-profit organisation requires volunteers to assist in the provision of programs to enable children, teenagers and adults with disabilities to participate in outdoor adventure programs and weekend or school holiday camping experiences.
