The Sydney Heritage Fleet Workshops in Rozelle Bay is a busy hive of activity. Our main restoration project is steamer John Oxley, and there are many regularly used vessels on which maintenance is essential. James Craig is a magnificent operating tall ship – a 3-masted barque built in 1874 so she is now 148 years old – and she needs you to help look after her!

You, the volunteer will be a skilled welder and steel fabricator to aid in the final stages of hull restoration, particularly the forecastle. Your team leader is gentle giant whose welding surpasses marine standard for boiler work.

From a rusted skeletal hulk in Recherche Bay Tasmania, she has been completely rebuilt by the volunteers at Sydney Heritage Fleet and now makes harbour and ocean voyages for the public often setting all of her 21 sails. Keeping her seaworthy needs constant attention , to paintwork, woodwork, rigging and deck caulking. We need you to join the happy team who carry out this work regularly on the ship.

An exciting opportunity exists for you to volunteer to assist us in running a Road Safety Program called ‘bstreetsmart’ at Qudos Bank Arena from 20-22 August 2024. Year 10 to 12 school students aged 16 –18 will attend the event with the aim to decrease road trauma in this age group. Volunteers will be required for ushering, crowd management, information relay, and safety officers
