Cairns Children’s Museum is a not-for-profit whose mission is to offer hands-on, interactive, educational exhibits and play spaces for the children in Cairns and surrounds. Our aim is to become a space that inspires children to play, explore, wonder and be curious about all things STEAM. We have a range of exhibits and interactive experiences for children to engage with, including a wind tunnel, the longest kaleidoscope in the southern hemisphere and our imaginative play area, Tiny Town!

We are in need of Information Guides and Restoration Assistants who will help preserve the Far North’s aviation and WW2 history. You will build on your current skill set whilst helping grow FNQ Aviation Museum. Help grow the museum and build it up to a place where you will be able to bring your friends and family and enjoy the fruits of your labour from the future Centre & café.

If you enjoy engaging with primary school children and have a knack for storytelling, we would love to have you as part of our Museum Schools Team. You will be working with a small team in a supervised, supported environment. You don’t need to be a teacher – a delight in talking with kids is the main skill we are seeking. Our Schools Team lead school activities in the Museum, as well as running off-site programs through our History on the Move trailer. Volunteers must be vaccinated.

We are on the hunt for art enthusiasts with a passion for sharing their love for the arts with visitors to the gallery. Volunteers must be double vaccinated.

Tasks include ticket and retail sales, visitor greeting, orientation and assistance, telephone inquiries and direction. The Museum is open Monday to Saturday, and two receptionists are usually rostered to work together. Volunteers must be vaccinated.

The Maritime Museum of Townsville collects stories and objects related to North Queensland's maritime heritage and has as its customers the local community, schools and tourists. It was established in 1986 and features a range of thematic displays, including wars in the Pacific, Port history, the evolution of ships and the Yongala shipwreck.
