MDFA's Support Groups provide a safe and welcoming space for people living with aged-related macular degeneration to share their stories and ask questions of their peers. The Facilitator role is well suited to someone with good communications skills and confidence in public speaking. Ideally you will have experience facilitating a support group and/or demonstrate the ability to lead a balanced discussion. Personal experience with macular disease is desirable, not necessary.

The Macular Disease Foundation of Australia (MDFA) is the national peak body representing the macular disease community.  Our four pillars of work include:  prevention and early detection, supporting the community to live optimally with macular conditions, systemic advocacy and research.  There are an estimated 1.4m Australians with some evidence of age-related macular degeneration, which is the most common macular disease.

General Volunteers operate in departments within the hospital based on their experience and/or interest. Breastfeeding counsellors are trained volunteers who offer breastfeeding information and mother-to-mother support to women whose babies are breastfeeding and to their families. Their area of expertise is breastfeeding support. The counsellors have to have breastfed at least one baby for a minimum of 6 months and hold a current Certificate IV in Breastfeeding Education (Counselling) (or equivalent) and have to complete ongoing training to up d ate their knowledge and skills.

We are a growing not-for-profit organisation that provides haircuts, free of charge and free of judgement, to Australians experiencing homelessness and poverty. A haircut may seem small, but it can have a positive impact on a person's self-esteem and wellbeing. It could be the confidence boost someone needs to apply for accommodation or for a job. Our aim is to give 15,000 free haircuts and positive community connections per year by 2025. That’s where you come in.
