People with dementia may become more restless in the afternoon or early evening and your patient attention, conversation and calming approach will be appreciated.
Relaxed caring patient conversations that bring smiles while encouraging our residents to enjoy an activity lead by our Occupational Therapists. We have opportunities on weekdays and weekends to brighten and enrich our resident's lives at Joseph Cooke House by lending a hand to our residents so they enjoy activities of puzzles, games and music to their fullest. Many of our residents have limited or no contact with family and friends. Your care, will greatly increase well-being.
Our resident need his day brightened up a bit with conversations with a man. Your help with puzzles, one on one time will bring well-being. Our Occupational Therapy Assistants will appreciate the well-being you bring to brighten a resident's day. Our male residents love to have conversations that bring in topics to life of earlier times - scouts, fixing cars, building model planes etc. Are you able to bring conversations to someone's day?
Volunteering with kind and patient conversations for two hours, once a week. Your contribution will be welcomed by our Occupational Therapy and Dementia teams at any time but particularly in late afternoon - we call it sundowning. Residents need more one on one focus at this time to ease restlessness. Your companionship and kindness will be welcomed, as you engage in conversation and calmly hold a hand.
