About Bottle for Botol

Bottle for Botol is a social enterprise located in Australia and Indonesia that partners students in both countries to work together to create a generational change away from single use plastics.

Globally the production of plastic products has doubled every decade since its invention. In just 50 years it is estimated that world ocean pollution has reached 500,000 tonnes.

Through a bottle exchange program, students and bottle purchasers in Australia support the reduction both the economic and environmental costs associated with obtaining clean drinking water at school in Indonesia. For every bottle sold in Australia, one ‘botol’ will be donated to a student in Indonesia, allowing them to switch from purchasing single-use plastic aqua cups in their canteen to refillable water bottles and gallon dispensers. This is teamed with an eight-week environmental education program.

Students in Australia gain experience in sustainability and plastic waste education, cultural understanding and social enterprise. In both countries, students participate in a design competition, whereby the winning design is printed on to the bottle to create ownership.

Together, we can create a generational change against single-use plastics.
