About Darwin Film Society

The Darwin Film Society (DFS) is a not-for-profit, community-based organisation with a membership base of around 650 members.

The DFS aims to diversify the cultural experiences available to the Darwin community through unique and alternative film experiences not provided by mainstream cinema.

The core areas of Darwin Film Society business are:
~ The Deckchair Cinema – Darwin’s premier outdoor, and fully independent, cinema on the Darwin Waterfront open from April to November annually
~ Flix in the Wet – is an eclectic program of films held on Sunday afternoons during the wet season (when Deckchair Cinema is closed; from late January to late March). The DFS has operated Flix in the Wet for more than twenty years
~ Darwin International Film Festival – or DIFF is a unique film culture event for Darwin being the world’s best cinema including NT and Australian premieres, special guests and workshops. Held annually since 2010 in September
~ Support for other community organisations, such as through fundraiser events held on Thursday evenings during the Deckchair season
~ Support for film and arts organisations and events, such as the Fist Full of Films Festival (held annually at Deckchair Cinema in November).
