About Alkira Centre Box Hill

Alkira strives to meet the needs of people with intellectual disabilities with care and support to enrich and challenge them to become part of the world community. Its programs include training and support services and recreation and holiday activities. It provides permanent, crisis and respite residential accommodation.

Alkira is an Aboriginal word meaning "bright sunshine" and this is an apt name for the Alkira Centre, a not for profit organisation based in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne. Alkira has been providing services and support since 1954 creating a place where people with an intellectual disability can feel empowered and supported to live rich, full and meaningful lives. Its approach is welcoming and respectful, where clients are truly valued and treated as individuals.
