About Alkira Centre Box Hill
The Alkira Centre, a not for profit organisation based in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, has been providing services and support since 1954 creating a place where people with an intellectual disability can feel empowered and supported to live rich, full and meaningful lives. Its approach is welcoming and respectful, where clients are truly valued and treated as individuals.
Alkira is an Aboriginal word meaning "bright sunshine" and this is an apt name, as Alkira strives to meet the needs of people with intellectual disabilities with care and support to enrich and challenge them to become part of the world community. Its programs include training and support services and recreation and holiday activities. It provides permanent, crisis and respite residential accommodation.
Visit Alkira's website to find out current volunteering opportunities or ring Simon Nette, Volunteer Coordinator, on 9890-1365.
