About FSVP

The Family Strengthening and Violence Prevention Community initiative (FSVPCI) is a non-for-profit organisation that focuses on taking a preventative approach to raising awareness against family violence in targeted communities.
The goal of the organisation is to make a real impact in the targeted communities by breaking cultural walls of silence and eradicating age-old stigmas when it comes to the issue of family violence. This initiative is designed to proactively prevent family violence within the Horn of African communities in Melbourne west and beyond by attacking the issues upstream.
This program takes a multi-pronged approach to dealing with family violence including, but not limited to; engaging and encouraging community members to have open discussions about the issue of violence against women occurring in the community and both identifying and constructively challenging norms of masculinity and perceptions that encourage violence against women.
Furthermore, FSVPCI also aims to support families’ engagement and student learning support to provide a dynamic and educational program for migrant parents, disadvantaged families from CALD backgrounds who live in Wyndham, Melton, and Brimbank LGAs to feel truly involved in their children’s education in Australia. A unique program designed to walk families through their local education system and how to best support their children to achieve their educational and/or vocational aspirations. This program addresses a key gap in effective settlement of migrant parents and provides a sustainable opportunity for increased migrant family engagement with their children’s schooling and extra-curricular activities.
