Every year, more than 35,500 Victorians will be diagnosed with cancer, and 11,000 will die from cancer. The number of cases will increase as our population grows and ages. Survival will also improve as we get better at early detection and treatment of cancer.

Since our establishment in 1936, Cancer Council Victoria has developed an international reputation for our innovative work in cancer research, prevention and support. As an independent, not-for-profit organisation, we play a leading role in reducing the impact of all cancers on all people.

OUR STRATEGY STATEMENT
We will reduce the devastating impact of all cancers on people and communities through leadership, collaboration, and by developing and applying evidence and insights.

OUR GOALS AND PRIORITIES
Prevent
Change the environment to enable healthier behaviours via powerful prevention policies and programs.
We will:
Influence law and policy reform in tobacco, UV, diet, obesity and alcohol.
Lead implementation and evaluation of cancer prevention communication campaigns.
Protect children from predatory commercial product marketing.
Ensure programs address health inequities and enable better outcomes for the whole population.

Detect
Increase participation equitably in cancer screening, early detection and HPV immunisation programs.
We will:
Advance the elimination of cervical cancer by 2030.
Sustain and evaluate campaigns and programs to increase bowel cancer screening.
Advocate for, and deliver evidence-based, early detection initiatives.
Work with communities to co-design strategies that address inequity in cancer screening participation.

Care
Enable all people to have equitable access to trusted cancer information, support and optimal care.
We will:
Tailor our services to address inequity to connect more people to the information and support they need.
Harness the collective voice of patients and clinicians to improve the cancer system for all.
Influence law and policy reform to better align program and service delivery with optimal care.
Reduce the financial, health and social burden of cancer for patients and families.

Research
Discover new prevention, detection, treatment and support opportunities to improve cancer outcomes and save lives.
We will:
Create rigorous, timely evidence to inform high value practices, policies and programs in cancer control, and to address inequities.
Fund ‘best and brightest’ research to alleviate the impact of cancer.
Enhance research and data platforms to enable future discoveries.
Leverage the value of our data and research though collaboration.
Pursue improved methods to monitor personal and environmental influences relating to cancer risk.
