About Drylands Foundation

We are not-for-profit/social enterprise and registered charity who work in environmental conservation and sustainability for the Geraldton midwest region of Western Australia.
Our areas of work follow:

Mission: to inspire and empower local communities with the practical knowledge to implement ecologically sustainable development principles in dryland environments.
Main Areas of Activities
1. Seed Collection, Plant Propagation And Distribution
Set up and operation of a seed bank of local provenance and acclimatised seed; and annual propagation of seedlings for sale with subsidised distribution. Promotion of biodiversity and dissemination of information on local species and plant community establishment.
2. Field Consultations
On-site consultations on dryland natural area conservation and Ecological Sustainable Development (ESD). Types of projects include vegetation surveys, rehabilitation services, landscape & soil fertility analysis/repair and water conservation.
3. Soil Conservation And Soil Biology Research
Identifying and breeding beneficial endemic soil biology to improve soil fertility and plant health, as part of a broader strategy to promote soil formation and protect existing soils from degradation using organic land management techniques.
4. Develop And Maintain Demonstration Facilities
Develop best practice Ecological Sustainable Development (ESD) demonstration facilities in a semi-rural/rural area which enable and support the Foundation’s environmental operations and activities. Facilities will host nursery, seedbank, buildings, organic plots, composting systems, waste recycling demonstrations and revegetation projects.
5. Education And Training
Regular open days at demonstration sites, customised environmental workshops and programs, subsidised training, mentoring, open learning courses and tours. Beneficiaries will receive working knowledge on Natural Area Conservation and Ecological Sustainable Development.
