About The Water Well Project

The Water Well Project is a not-for-profit, health promotion charity which aims to improve the health and wellbeing of migrants, refugees and asylum seekers by improving health literacy. Our vision is that all migrants, refugees and asylum seekers achieve equitable access to healthcare to enable them to live full lives and contribute to the wider community.

The Water Well Project works closely with partner organisations already working with people of migrant, refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds to develop culturally-sensitive health education sessions. All sessions are free of charge and aim to increase understanding of both individual and wider community health issues. Our volunteers are healthcare professionals (doctors, nurses, midwives, and dentists) who donate their knowledge to deliver health education sessions outside their hours of paid professional work.

To date, The Water Well Project has delivered more than 300 sessions with the support of volunteers, public donations and grants. It is estimated that these sessions have reached approximately 3,000 individuals with flow-on effects to their family and friends. The Water Well Project was proud to be recognised in the Victorian Government’s Victorian Refugee and Asylum Seeker Action Plan 2014-2018 and to be named as finalists in the 2016 Melbourne Awards for Contribution to Multiculturalism and Impact 100 Melbourne. We believe that this is formal recognition of the important service The Water Well Project is providing across Victoria.
