Support Worker for Kippax Kids (Helper)

About this opportunity

Kippax Kids groups are community playgroups, run by volunteers, where everyone is welcome and included. Each group is run by a volunteer Convenor and has a Helper to provide additional support. During a Kippax Kids session there is time for free indoor and outdoor play, art or craft time, time to eat food together and some groups have singing or story time.

The role of the Kippax Kids Helper is to provide practical and relational support to all families attending the playgroup.The Helper works with the Kippax Kids Convenor to ensure that the playgroup runs smoothly and is a welcoming and inclusive place.

Duties include:

-Arrive on time to ensure the playgroup room and outdoor play area is open and ready at the beginning of the playgroup session.

-Spend time with new families to encourage the building of friendship and a sense of belonging to the playgroup.

-Help set up tables, toys and activities as required and encourage all families to participate in this process.

-Help rostered families prepare and clean up morning/afternoon tea if needed.

-Model positive interactions with the children

-Help pack up tables, toys and activities as required and encourage all families to participate in this process.


Additional requirements

National Police Certificate *. Working with Children Check *.

-Have a current, or be prepared to apply for, Working with Vulnerable People Card.
-Strong relationship skills.
-Good listening skills.
-Ability to engage with children.
-Tolerance, understanding and ability to relate to people from a range of cultural and language backgrounds.
-Willingness to work within the ethos of the Uniting Church in Australia guided by the values of Kippax Uniting Church.
-Ability to work to defined timeframes/schedules.
