The Maternal & Child Health Greythorn playgroup are seeking a volunteer to assist with a Chinese playgroup which is held on Wednesday mornings at Greythorn Maternal Child & Health. This will suit a Mandarin Speaker but non-Mandarin speakers may also apply.

You will be matched with families and tasks based on your experience, skills and interests and the family’s needs. We would like you to commit for 12 months and to be flexible when volunteering. The support you are expected to give will vary from family to family and may change during your time with us. We will provide you with adequate training and supervision.

The role of a playgroup volunteer is to support the leader who runs the group. It involves set up, pack up, helping to run free play, mat time, arts and craft, snack and outdoor play. It’s an opportunity to support families in the community who have young children and to encourage them to be meaningfully engaged in activities that help with their development.

The Boroondara Family Network supports families living in the City of Boroondara with children under the age of six. The volunteer visits the parents home to provide parenting support for the families. The volunteer provides practical help (holding/playing with the baby), friendly support and encouragement in a non judgemental manner. The volunteers are available to engage in adult conversation and be a listening ear. They may assist families to access other community services where appropriate
