When a natural disaster strikes or an emergency situation arises, DFES’s State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers can be found providing a wide range of volunteer services to help the community cope from the impact a disaster. This involves providing emergency repairs on buildings, to restoration of essential services and ferrying cargo and passengers across flood waters. Helping the community to recover by responding to natural disasters is only part of SES’ responsibility.

The Rockingham Kwinana SES Unit is made up of four sections; Rescue, Logistics, Communications and Operations, with each team contributing to the overall function of the Unit. Operations is the information processing area for SES. Much of our work is computer based. Our main role is to record all the details of emergencies into a database and track teams who are out on jobs.

Albany Sea Rescue are looking for volunteers to operate a 2 way radio and computer to talk to mariners who call in when going fishing. They operate 24 hours/7 days per week, with 3 shifts per day. Training will be provided. Will need to sit and pass a National Radio Competency exam.

While the primary role of the SES is to respond to incidents involving floods and storms, it also provides crucial support and assistance to other emergency service organisations. SES is open to men and women with a reasonable degree of physical fitness and a passion to get involved within their community. As an SES volunteer you will be trained to assist in the Ops and Comm's centre to cope with natural disasters including storm, floods and land searches.

Members of the SES play a significant & vital role in helping to ensure that the community is a safe place in which to work, live & play. They serve the community on a voluntary basis by providing a commitment in operational & non-operational roles.
