Wingate Avenue Community Centre

Established in 1985, Wingate Avenue Community Centre is based on a large public housing estate in Ascot Vale. The centre offers education, training and occasional childcare combined with social and recreational programs that create pathways to education and employment. The housing estate has a significant number of families from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds.

Some of the main aims of the centre are to be responsive to the changing needs of the local community and we do this by conducting a needs assessment and education analysis every three years to identify the needs of those living in and around the housing estate. Currently there are 3,230 people living in the Ascot Vale and Flemington public housing estates.

The major program areas offered by Wingate include:
• AMEP - Adult Migrant English Program
• SEE – Skills for Employment and Education
• English as a Second Language (ESL) Program
• Beginner to Advanced Computers
• Bookkeeping & MYOB
• DEEWR Childcare

Wingate is a Registered Training Organisation that recently won the 2013 Victorian Learn Local Legend Award which recognises outstanding regional contribution to learners. The centre prides itself in providing education and training pathways through social and support programs to those living on the housing estate.
