About this opportunity

Are you someone with a strong will and who likes to engage in some banter? Someone who enjoys spending time mountain biking and wants to make a difference? We are seeking someone to be a Friend/Mentor to a male with an intellectual disability.

Your Involvement

Alan needs help to connect with their local community and have someone willing to listen to them and speak up for them if needed.

As Alan's Advocate, you will be a trusted friend and ally who may help Alan face challenges in navigating systems, advocating for his rights, or simply finding his place in the community.

As Alan's mate you would spend time together based on your mutual interests and he really likes mountain biking!

Orientation and ongoing support in order to fulfill this role will be provided to the right applicant.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the nature of this role, this role is NOT suitable for student placements or students wanting to gain experience in the sector. We are also unable to sign Centrelink forms for volunteer status.


Additional requirements

Covid-19 vaccination . Driver's Licence (C) . National Police Certificate *. Working with Vulnerable People Check .

Police check will be paid for by organisation for successful applicant.

Citizen Advocates need to be able to work relatively independently, be able to take initiative and be proactive with their match.

Time Required

Flexible and tailored to the needs and availability of the volunteer and the person they support. 1-2 hours a week suggested Minimum commitment: 12 months
