About Inner West Neighbour Aid

A community where seniors connect and share their knowledge to lead active, social, and independent lives.

Inner West Neighbour Aid has been providing support to the community since 1992. Operating with a small professional team supported by volunteers who help clients stay independent, healthy, and socially connected.

Our Mission is to enhance community spirit by providing social support and home assistance to older people and carers in our local area. We connect people who are passionate about helping others with people who need support to live safely and independently at home and remain active in our community by running tailored programs.

Our two main services are Social Support and Home Maintenance. The following programs require the help of volunteers.

Social Outings, Strong Together centre based program, Alive and Kicking, Stand Tall, DanceMoves, Living Well with Dementia Workshops, Gardening, 5 Senses Garden Workshops, Working Bees and Dog Walking. Private Help at Home Garden and Lawn Mowing.

Out and About

Our Mini Outings program is a relaxing activity where clients, staff, and volunteers chat together, reminisce about old-time and swap stories whilst getting out and about in the community visiting locations such as local community halls, parks, museums, galleries, local clubs, and shopping centers. (door-to-door service)

Our Strong Together program is a relaxed group gathering who meets at the Croydon Park Club. Clients, participate in guided activities such as bingo, creative art classes, brain training, and gentle exercise. Sometimes their guest speakers deliver messages on practical healthy aging in areas such as general health, nutrition, My Aged Care, pet therapy, continence, personal safety as well as center-based activities the groups venture out and about in the community visiting locations such as local restaurants, cafes, and gardens. (door-to-door service)

Health and Wellbeing
Our Alive and Kicking, Stand Tall and DanceMoves programs are exercise and strength classes with qualified instructors in professional and safe settings. (door-to-door service)

Our Living Well with Dementia Workshops provide workshops for people living with dementia and their carers delivering therapeutic activities such as meditation, horticulture, music, art, and dance in the beautiful calming surrounds of our 5 Senses Garden in Concord West.

Our Dog Walkers help with dog health and wellbeing by assisting clients who may not be physically able to or who can’t walk far from home and give the exercise time their dog needs.

Gardening
Our Horticulturalists lead a team of garden aid volunteers who provide minor gardening services including weeding, pruning, re-potting, and general tidy up’s to ensure safety for our clients.

Our 5 Senses Garden in Concord is a community collaboration in partnership with the City of Canada Bay Council. Our unique garden appeals to all five senses providing an environment to enjoy and participate in innovative workshops within our harvest garden, native sensory garden, children’s play space, and a central community area encouraging socialisation, information sharing, dining, and education sessions.

Neighbour Aid is governed by a volunteer Board, and we are always interested in recruiting new members. If you are interested in joining the Board, please contact us.
